A Chrome Extension that slows your browser down

A hacking experiment, where we make your browsing experience slower. Featuring retro UI components, and maybe a little bit of "Vibe Coding".

I have a theory about modern website interactions - for social media like reddit, instagram, twitter, etc. that seem to sap endless hours of your day. Much like the TikTok / Reels style of interaction - these sites and feeds return content you’re likely to engage with, read, or comment on in service of showing you more ads.

Thus, you tend to keep going back to them and clicking around.

This extension forces you to be more intentional - every time your page’s URL changes (for both Single-Page apps and regular static websites), we inject a screen pretending to be a loading screen. It forces you to take a second and say, is this really worth it?

Part productivity tool, part nostalgia for the days when loading a web page took minutes over a slow connection.

Now, featuring 98.css to provide Windows 98 UI Components - you too can make your browsing experience slow af.

Have a better way to do this? It’s on github here: Fork it. Likely, I won’t make major updates to this unless I have another good idea that I want to add. I’m not planning on implementing crazy features that get requested, unless I also want it.

Did I Vibe Code This?

Partially. The other half, is hand crafted.
